About us – ModestIdeas & Siersels by ModestIdeas
What started as a hobby that got out of hand has grown into a flourishing jewelry brand: ModestIdeas. My name is Romy – founder and owner of ModestIdeas and the Siersels by ModestIdeas store in Middelburg.
In the summer of 2017, purely out of boredom, I started making bracelets. I had ordered a large supply of beads and got to work. Soon I had made so much that I decided to sell them. I stood at markets and discovered how much fun it is to make others happy with something you designed yourself. At that moment I knew: this is what I want to do full-time.
The name ‘ModestIdeas’ came about when I asked family to describe me in one word. “Modest,” they said. In English, that became “Modest” (I thought this was a beautiful word) – and “Ideas” followed naturally, because every piece of jewelry starts as an idea that comes to life.
Growth with love
Between 2018 and 2020, I sold my jewelry at markets and through platforms like United Wardrobe. Later, I also started a wholesale business in children's jewelry. In 2020, I officially registered with the Chamber of Commerce and launched my own webshop. During the coronavirus pandemic, online sales grew rapidly, and in 2022, I rented my first office space – finally a place where I could truly work on my jewelry.
Less than a year later, a retail space unexpectedly came my way. With the help of family and friends, we renovated the premises, and in February 2023, we opened the doors of Siersels. Since then, we have grown into a cozy store full of handmade and handpicked jewelry, accessories, and gifts.
Handmade & sustainable
A large part of our jewelry is made by us – in the store or at our office. For this, we use stainless steel: strong, skin-friendly, and waterproof. This way, your jewelry stays beautiful for a long time, even with daily use. A part of our collection is carefully sourced from trusted wholesalers, allowing us to have new items almost weekly.
Step by step, our store – both online and offline – continues to grow. Our team is also expanding, so fortunately, I no longer have to do it alone. I am incredibly grateful for everything we have achieved so far and look forward with confidence to what is yet to come.
